        The hotel location is very convenient. The first staff member I met was pleasant.
      • Was there anything you didn't like?
        I booked for four nights but had to leave the hotel after one night because it was the worst night's sleep I've ever had (and have stayed at many similarly priced hotels in Manhattan and am aware of what NYC is like). Aside from the street noise (which was considerable as the windows were not soundproof), the main problem is that the hotel is directly above the Canal Street station and the vibrations from the trains (re)woke me every few minutes, with the heavier express train every 10 minutes or so. I was in town for a conference and had to leave because I would not have slept the other days. I spoke to the staff member on duty the next morning (Andrew) and explained the situation - I asked if there was any possibility of cancelling the last two nights and getting a refund, understanding that the second night would be forfeited. Despite my voice and request being very calm and respectful, he responded in quite an angry and unpleasant way, raising his voice and huffing and puffing at the request. I asked if he could contact the manager to ask about the situation and - after initially saying it wasn't possible - agreed to do this and get back to me. He did not get back to me - I doubt he contacted the manager at all. At one point, after I said I wasn't looking to give a bad review but simply couldn't sleep given the situation, he also told me explicitly that "they don't care about bad reviews". That says it all. I'm only leaving this to warn others who might also face similar situations here.
